Why Regular Dog Grooming is Essential

As you may be aware, owning a dog comes with a lot of responsibilities. You need to keep them fed, deal with their waste, give them adequate exercise, and of course plenty of love. In addition to this, you also need to keep up with their grooming.

Get Rid of Shedding Fur

Many dog breeds will shed a lot of hair. This can be a nuisance to you since you’ll need to keep your home cleaner. However, you can decrease the amount of shedding when you maintain regular grooming. Brushing your dog’s fur helps to reduce shedding because the brushing stimulates oil in your dog’s skin.

This oil leads to hair being retained more so you end up with less shedding. Of course, regular brushing also removes knots or matting in your dog’s fur so your dog can always look its best.

Remove Irritants

Pests and other irritants can find their way onto your dog in many ways. Spending time outside makes your dogs especially susceptible to picking up pests including fleas and other insects. When you groom your dog, you are able to give them a good wash and clean away a lot of the pests and debris that are trapped in their fur.

Additionally, during a bath, you can inspect your dog to check for insects that are hard to get rid of. It’s important to have this time regularly so you can keep an eye on the health of your dog. You can also find ways to prevent pests. Some collars can help keep fleas off your dog. Preventing fleas and other pests protects your dog and reduces the risk of you missing a pest during their grooming.

Maintain Their Health

Proper grooming isn’t just about aesthetics. It is also an important part of keeping your dog healthy. For example, you need to trim their nails. Trimmed nails decrease the risk of infection or irritation. While you trim, you can also keep an eye out for any other potential issues such as abrasions and other injuries. While you groom, you should also check their eyes, ears, and teeth. All pets run the risk of having problems but certain breeds are more likely to have issues in these areas.

Your dog needs plenty of love and care. Create a schedule for bathing, brushing, trimming nails, and any other needs your dog has. With the right grooming, you can improve your dog’s health and help them be a happy companion to you.
